INSTAGRAM FOR BUSINESS

These past few years have seen social media grow drastically along with the sales of smartphones and tablets, which use applications. Apps like Instagram have created opportunities for many social media companies and we’ve even seen the creation of apps compatible only on smartphones or tablets. Although it would seem like a limiting move, some apps have blossomed wonderfully due to this unique selling point. A big part of social media development is software updates and new features that keep users on their toes.

Last week, Instagram, the goliath of photo and video sharing platforms, made a big move by incorporating their new ‘Stories’ feature into their app. There has been a lot of speculation as to whether they took the idea from Snapchat, the no-longer-so-unique photo and video-sharing app. The ‘Stories’ feature allows users to upload photos and videos to their ‘Story’, where they can be viewed by their followers for up to 24-hours. Your post can be edited using a doodle tool and a text option much like Snapchat, although Instagram Stories has yet to add face filters.

After seeing Instagram’s admirably ruthless move to improve their app, we wonder how local businesses can actually benefit from this fun new feature by incorporating it into their marketing strategy. Instagram has been the mother platform for many major brands, even brands that took off through the app and have achieved great success from it. The appeal that Instagram, and even Snapchat, offer is one of a kind. They offer a visual promotion platform that can change the typical local business into a trendy, worldwide-recognised brand. Now that both apps have the stories feature, businesses can exploit it by posting things that clients may not see on any other social media platform; similar to a behind the scenes look at the company that can help to improve customer relationships and create the impression of exclusivity.

Being the Social Media Marketing enthusiasts that we are, we just LOVE a good challenge, which is why we have been putting in the extra time to give our Instagram presence the attention it deserves – we’re already seeing results!

We live in such a beautiful part of the world, with Instagram posting opportunities at every turn – why not make the most of the wonderful visuals that surround us?
