Art Gaucín celebrates 15th annual art event
Art Gaucín celebrates its annual event, with a special 15th anniversary. It was held last weekend, and continues on the 1st – 3rd of June. It’s an event not to be missed!
Artists from all over the world have been drawn to this picturesque village set in Ronda’s mountain range, which also prides itself on quality gastronomy and stylish boutique hotels, making it a seductive destination for all.
The art event, where twenty-one participating artists open their studios to the public, takes place between 11:00 and 19:00 each day, but make sure you have plenty of time, as there is a surprisingly wide selection of galleries to visit.
All the exhibitions boast high profile art, ranging from an extensive selection of photography, lithography, oil paintings, watercolours, sculpture, jewellery, and ceramics; most interesting of all is chatting with the artists themselves. They all come from a professional background in teaching or exhibiting internationally, and are friendly and welcoming, keen to display and explain their art and lifestyle.
As an additional bonus, all the galleries offer sublime views to the mountain village, with its ruined Moorish castle set on the top of a cliff, overlooking a landscape of oak and cork trees leading down to the sea with Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains of North Africa in the far distance. It presents a setting that can only inspire any artist.
Art Gaucín is a great day out and can be enjoyed by all members of the family, young and old!
The village is only an hour away from Marbella and 45 minutes from Estepona. Take the km153 junction then follow the signs for Casares at the roundabout, which leads all the way to Gaucín.
