Sampling delicacies at Kempinski’s Spiler Beach Club
Spiler Beach Club is the tastefully restyled beachside dining venue at the Kempinski Hotel Bahía on the New Golden Mile near Estepona. But it is much more than that, for this is a superbly stylish venue in which to meet, relax with a drink and mesmerising views of the sea, enjoy lunch or dinner, and also come and spend the day in the sun.
Where the main lawn and pool areas are reserved for hotel guests only, the beach club and its sunbed area are open to diners and day-visitors too. A sunbed costs €90 for the day in high season, but with it comes €50 to spend in the restaurant, and that’s not something you’ll want to miss out on, for both the venue and the menu are what summer dreams are made of.
The views across the beach, sky and sea – as seen both from the lawns and the restaurant’s dining room and terrace – are simply dreamy, and the stylish décor fits in beautifully with this idyllic setting, and indeed adds further to the sense of privilege that you feel in what is quite frankly one of the most refined beach clubs anywhere between Sotogrande and Marbella.
Gorgeous food in a gorgeous setting
Beautiful décor is, of course, not enough in a restaurant, so the service and culinary offering were put to the test in a specially created tasting menu that pays homage to the seaside setting with a selection of seafood delicacies made and presented to perfection by Spiler’s resident chef, David Fernandez.
The feast starts with refreshing clams served with iced mojito, then adds a wonderful explosion of flavour with Crab Kimuchi served with Japanese mayonnaise. The citric marinated scallops with corn cream bring the fresh flavours of the sea to mind, washed down with a gentle Muga blush rosé, before it gathers pace with crispy grilled octopus and squid croquettes.
The presentation is a work of art, the ingredients and preparation the finest, and the flavours melt in your mouth as you take in this very special location. If luxury is all about feeling special, then Spiler Beach Club has it down to perfection in an unpretentious, effortlessly stylish way.
The grilled red tuna loin and rib eye beef were among the best I’ve ever tasted, and the sweet pineapple sponge cake topped with coconut foam completed the kind of afternoon everyone should treat themselves to from time to time.
If you like loud techno music and heaving crowds, don’t come, but it you enjoy quality, style and wonderful flavours in a relaxing, refined environment, then Spiler Beach Club is not to be missed!
