MANIFESTO LOVES – PORTUGUESE DELICACIES IN MARBELLA

AstralitoIt may not be as famous as Italian, Chinese or Indian cuisine, but those of you who have been to Portugal will know that it punches well above its weight when it comes to good food. Indeed, Lisbon and the country’s wines, flavours and olive oil are being discovered by those in the know right now, from Hollywood celebs to foodies and other sophisticated travellers.

Having lived in Portugal and come to love its food, we were delighted to find a restaurant in Marbella that serves Portuguese dishes, and put it to the test immediately. Astralito (owned by Astral Cocktail Bar) is a charming, unpretentious little eatery not unlike the family restaurants you’ll find across the length and breadth of Portugal. Situated in Puerto Banús, it forms part of a growing cluster of fun al fresco restaurants and cafés on the west side of the Cristamar Centre.Astralito

From its relaxed terrace you’re a short stroll from El Corte Inglés and the beach, but stick around for delicious dishes like grilled Chicken piri-piri, the tasty traditional Bitoque steak, Bacalhao com natas (cod in cream) and Bacalhao a braz (even better) – all washed down with some Agua das Pedras mineral water, a Superbock beer or excellent Portuguese wines. We recommend trying a refreshing Vinho Verde – you’ll be hooked!
