5 things to consider when making a website
If you own a business, it only makes sense to create a website for it. It gives clarity to your company and provides all the information potential customers or clients might need. That being said, it is not that simple. Even though there are plenty of ‘simple’ templates to use, creating a good website still requires a lot of thought and the right knowledge.
Nearly every company comes with a website nowadays. It is the perfect way to present your company online. However, something a lot of people don’t realise, is the effort it takes to create a good website. You might even have experienced it yourself when searching for a certain topic and multiple websites pop up. Your attention automatically goes to the ones that appear at the top of Google, and you probably select the one that is the most user-friendly, has a nice design and gives you all the information you need. Websites that don’t meet these requirements will likely be skipped over. So, how exactly do you build a good website then?
- The briefing
When you create a website for your company, there are a few important aspects to keep in mind. First off all, it’s obviously important to think about what needs to be done. What elements will there be on your website? What makes it stand out? What it will look like? What do you competitors do? What content does my target audience prefer? All things to take into consideration…
- Plan the work
The process of building your website is about to start. There is a lot that has to be done. You are going to need a building platform, think about WordPress for example. This is one of the most used platforms for website building, since it is easy and cheap to use. Besides that you also need to set up a domain name and hosting service. Once this is all figured out and set up, it is time to start creating your website!
- Consider the content
Then there is also the technical part to web design. Something really important in order for your website to work well, but also to rank well on Google. You need to put some thought into what kind of content you will put on your website. This includes keyword-rich texts written with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) in mind and probably best left to be handled by a professional.
- Branding and style
Next is the part that meets the eye: the branding of your website. If you already have elements such as a logo, business card, advertisements etc in place, it is a logical option to keep your website in that same style, for example by using those colours and fonts. When you’re starting from scratch, research what kind of branding fits your taste and the industry. Take a look at your competitors, but obviously don’t copy them. Do you want to create a serious look for your company, or keep it more casual and fun? It is best to discuss this with your graphic designer.
- Responsiveness
Over the years, the way we visit websites has changed. So, when you are building a website nowadays, you have to keep in mind that the design and accessibility also have to perform well on devices other than a laptop or desktop. This means you often have to build a website version suitable for a phone or tablet. Luckily, most website templates nowadays are set up to be responsiveness.
